Live ski data — the topic hub

Where-to-Ski.com is built on a single idea: ski data should be comparable across resorts, not a marketing brochure per mountain.

This hub collects everything we publish about how that data is collected, normalised and refreshed — from snow depth and 7-day forecasts to lift opening status and pass pricing.

    The six data pillars

    Snow depth

Upper- vs lower-mountain readings, 48–96 h cache TTLs, and how stale or qualitative values are explicitly expired rather than guessed.

    Snow forecasts

Why 7-day totals are more useful than hourly graphs at 9 km model resolution, and how we altitude-correct per resort.

    Lift & opening status

Four-signal model: season window, operational status, terrain open, and time-of-day hours for indoor centres.

    Lift pass prices

Official resort pricing, EUR normalisation, hard-coded operator rules (Skistar × 4.9, fixed SEK 11:1) and rejection of one-day promo pricing.

    Resort catalogue

675+ resorts across 41 countries, ~60 categorisation tags, coordinate-verified against OpenStreetMap and Google Maps.

    Refresh & alerts

    Powder alerts at ≥20 cm/24 h or ≥30 cm/7 d with a 5-day cool-down, twice-daily cron jobs and per-region sync schedules.
