    Methodology

    "Open today" filters resorts whose stored season window includes the current date. Within that set we count only resorts with a verified, plausible snow-depth value (between 1 and 999 cm) sourced from per-region feeds (RapidAPI for the US, fnugg for Norway, ANMSM for France) or our Perplexity-Sonar verifier.

    The "long-term reliability leaders" table uses category tags (high-altitude, glacier, snow-sure) as a proxy for elevation until per-resort base/peak elevations are fully populated. In a warming climate, altitude is the single best long-term predictor of snow reliability: every 100 m of base elevation lowers average winter temperatures by ~0.65°C.

    Country medians require at least 3 in-season resorts with verified depths. Closed and off-season resorts are excluded so the ranking reflects skiable conditions, not legacy data.
