How we rank tree-skiing resorts
We score each resort on four factors: (1) gladed acreage — the total hectares of officially managed in-forest skiing; (2) tree line altitude — how high the trees extend, since higher tree lines mean more skiable forest terrain; (3) average tree spacing — whether the forest is open enough to ski comfortably; and (4) snow quality, since tree skiing only works well in soft snow that's deep enough to cushion falls but not so wet that it crusts up.
Acreages are approximations based on resort trail maps and published gladed-area counts; exact figures vary by season and avalanche management. Use the figures as a comparative guide, not a precise audit.
