Mid-November openings at A-Basin (CO), Killington (VT), Mammoth (CA).
Peak season (Jan–Feb)
Late January through mid-March is the powder peak across the West.
Late season (Mar–May)
April is glorious in the Rockies and California. Mammoth and Squaw often run into June; A-Basin to early June.
Snow reliability
Outstanding in the West. East Coast (Vermont, New Hampshire) depends more on snowmaking.

I-70 west of Denver is notoriously congested on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Chain laws are enforced on I-70 and Wasatch canyons.
Local transport
Free resort shuttles in most major destinations. Park City and Aspen have excellent free local bus networks.
Transfer tip: SLC has the shortest airport-to-snow time in North America (35 min to Snowbird/Alta) — a huge edge for short trips.
